Small Ceiling Fans Light

Installed a ceiling fan in place of a small dimming chandeleir. The fan works great........?

BUT ONLY BY THE FANS PULL CHAINS......THE LIGHT SWITCH THAT USED TO CONROL THE CHANDELEIR NO LONGER WORKS THE FAN AT ALL.........is it because the amps are different? If I replace the switch's little box with one that will support greater amps will that solve the problem? PLEASE HELP!!
in the ceiling there were THREE black wires and THREE white wires and a red ground wire.....not green.....once I removed the chandelier, all three blacks were twisted together as were the three whites. So only the one HOT wire of each color is needed to connect to the fans wires?

What country are you in? But I don't expect red to be a ground anywhere. I think the red was your switched hot, and by connecting the fan to the black wire, the switch does nothing. I think it should be connected to red and white. Also, a dimmer should not be used to control a fan. Replace it with a simple switch or a fan speed control. Incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps, and fans all use different controls.
