Ceiling Fans With Lights Installation
Ceiling Fans With Lights Installation

Ceiling fan installation problems / Electrical?
Hello all. I have installed a ceiling fan with a light. I have wired the two wires from the fan and light together and then wired those to the hot wire in the ceiling. The other wire from the fan is wired to the nuetral ceiling wire. No lights or fan works. I removed it and hard wired the same configuration to an extension cord I had cut and then plugged it into a wall socket and both the fan and light work. I used a tester (prongs with a light) to test the wires in the ceiling and they show power, but when I hooked the fan back up neither the light or fan work.,.Please does anyone have any suggestions,..PS,.,.the ceiling wires were hooked to a light previously and the light worked and the wires are controlled from an older dimmer switch. Thank you in advance for your advice,..
you have to check for voltage with a load connected,,,with no load you can sometimes read voltage that goes away when a load is connected,,easier said than done but try to see if power is present while everything is connected...if power is present then likely problem is in the ceiling fan wiring,connecters,etc.....fyi..replace the dimmer switch with a regular switch....fan motors need the full 120volts,,not good to reduce voltage to them...can only use dimmer on the light....if they share the same hot wire,,remove dimmer........dan
