Ceiling Fan - HELP - Urgent!?
i recently bought a ceiling fan from homebase,
i did some research before on how to install and it looked pretty easy, but now i have a big problem,
i cant get the fan to work and for some reason, one of the lights in the passageway has stopped working
Coming out of the ceiling i have 1 green wire which i believe is the ground, i have 2 black wires that have been joined and i assume its the neutral, i have another black wire with a red band, which i presume to be the live wire
there is also a bigger red wire hanging from the ceiling which is not in use
from the fan, i have a red and brown, which i joined together as they were separated as the fan and light, but since i thought there can be one wire of power supply, i joined them together, a yellow and green joined together, and a blue
can someone please help me,
i tried calling an electrician but no one is available for such a small job

You don't sound stupid but at the same time you don't sound like you know what the ring main is used for or how it works. Sure you know how dangerous electricity can be and as such someone who know's what there doning needs to see this job and i know how hard it is to get people to come and see little jobs but it's for the best definitly.
